The ruins of this beautiful church are located just 2 km southeast of Magliano in Toscana. To reach them leaving Magliano you must first take the road that leads to Orbetello, and after traveling a few hundred meters on this road you must turn left at the crossroads taking the road that leads to Marsiliana, after just over a kilometer on the left at the bottom in a field you can see the ruins of the Romanesque-Lombard church of San Bruzio (San Tiburzio).
San Bruzio is one of the most refined Romanesque monuments in the Maremma. The rectory of San Tiburzio (San Bruzio) was founded around the year 1000 and its construction was completed towards the end of the 12th century. Originally the structure of the church had a Latin cross plan (32 meters long, 12 meters wide and 20 meters at the transept).
Today of the rectory, after centuries of abandonment, the semicircular apse and two parts of the transept remain visible as well as traces of the octagonal dome. The apse is surmounted by a semi-dome and is decorated externally with motifs of blind arches and pilasters and has three narrow symmetrical single-lancet windows. Of particular note among the decorative motifs are the French-style capitals, decorated with foliage and anthropomorphic heads.
The external walls of the rectory, in particular the part of the apse, are finely worked and enriched by agile semi-columns joined by small arches. In some details of the structure, for example in the decorations of the apse, in the capitals of the columns and in the lightness of the structure, we can see the beginning of the development of a primordial Gothic style. In the scarce remains it is possible to admire many sculptures, which can only make us imagine how the rectory must have looked at the time of its maximum splendour.
